Josh Malin

Josh is a young UK based racing driver and sim racer competing in the Ginetta GT5 Championship
He's also a two time MX5 champion and competes in various online leagues

We first met Josh on our stand at the Autosport International show back in January 2020, which seems like a lifetime ago already. We were running a lap time challenge, with a pretty impressive prize of a Sim Lab P1-X chassis being awarded to the driver with the fastest lap time over the duration of the show.

Josh won that competition - he was incredibly quick and the way he learnt the circuit (mondello park) which he had never raced on, was impressive too. His outright speed and his attitude impressed us. As well as being a thoroughly nice guy, it was obvious that he intended to win. His dedication and focus on the task in hand were clear to see.

So a few weeks later, we shipped over a brand new Sim Lab P1-X chassis in black with all the trimmings, but more on the rig later.

Josh is putting the new gear to good use and recently came 3rd behind Alexander Albon in the F3 NHS Charity Race as well as qualifying in the top split (out of 600 entrants) for PowerMaxed Racing league, driving the Audi RS3 TCR. He finished 5th and 8th in the first 2 races and lies 8th in the Championship.

Who is Josh Malin?

"At the age of 4 I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I was told that I would never be able to follow a career in Motorsport and that I should limit my aspirations due to my condition. But even at that young age I knew that's what I wanted to do.
Probably not at the age of 4, but a few years later I knew that I would not stand by and be restricted by my condition, I would fight and become the athlete I knew I could be.

I got the chance to start my ‘real racing’ career in the BARC MaX5 Racing Championship and in 2017 (my first full season) I won my first championship taking 9 out of 16 race wins in Class B. Swiftly moving up into Class A of the MaX5 Championship for 2018 I claimed my second championship with 11 wins from 16 races. In 2019 I finished 5th in the highly competitive British championship, the Ginetta GT5 Challenge, including 6 podiums, 1 race win, 2 fastest laps and the Donington Park GT5 Lap Record
I'm signed up to compete again in 2020…….if and when the season starts!! "

Josh's Digital Motorsports Sim Rig

"Using a simulator certainly helps me with my reactions, car control and track knowledge - My first taste of using a sim was with a steering wheel clamped to a desk whilst playing Disney Pixar Cars, aged 6!

Since then I’ve upgraded a few times and, thanks to Digital Motorsports, I now run a Fanatec DD2, Fanatec V3 pedals, Fanatec CS 1.5 Shifter, Fanatec CS & V2 Formula rims both with SRM magnetic shifters on a SimLab P1X rig with triple Iiyama 27” monitors and integrated monitor mount.

I am relishing the opportunity to compete in the Digital Motorsports iRacing league alongside some very quick sim and real world drivers."
